NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY

Had Pharaoh known about school system, he would not have killed children. Once a system of general education system was brought into being , the ruling class never hesitated to use it to produce an obedient class which would support the system to the extent possible. India is no exception. When the British marauders occupied the subcontinent, the first thing they did was replacing the Indian tradition of education with the British model, lock stock and barrel. Lord Macaulay, the conservative educationalists who thought that all the knowledge produced by this ancient land could not rival the books in a small bookshelf in an English household. And he knew that education was one of the powerful tools in the hands of the empire. Macaulay's note on education was so successful that it produced innumerable brown sahibs who would wait on third rate white sahibs and would act according to their commands. No wonder Indians helped invaders run the vast subcontinent of teeming millions for almost two centuries.
